Scientific activity: Research and development of new therapies and molecular-based diagnosis systems in cancer

Along with a group of private companies and public institutions, it drives a program of scientific research and development of oncology products that have updated patents in the main world markets. The program is oriented to the most prevalent solid tumors in adults or pediatric patients and is based on the identification and validation of specific molecular targets that determine or sustain the aberrant behavior of cancer cells.

The following projects are included:

  1. Compound that inhibits the activity of the caseine kinase 2 enzyme::

  2. A new peptidic compound has been developed, which is able to induce death in tumor cells. The caseine kinase 2 is an enzyme involved in the survival and growth of tumor cells, participating in the activation of viral oncoproteins such as papillomavirus (HPV). The compound will be particularly used in uterine cervix cancer and HPV lesions.

  3. Vasopressin analogs with anti-tumor activity:
  4. Some cancers, such as breast and lung, and certain blood vessel cells express the vasopressin V2 receptor, which can be stimulated to generate an anti-tumor response and reduce tumor vascularization. Synthetic compounds derived from vasopressin are being developed, which would be very helpful for cancer treatment as interveners during the oncology surgery.

  5. Therapeutic vaccines against cancer from gangliosides and anti-idiotypic monoclonal antibodies:
  6. They are administered to specifically stimulate the defenses against residual cancer cells, in patients undergoing surgery and/or chemotherapy. They could be applied to lung cancer, breast cancer and melanoma treatments, among others

  7. Development of new molecular detection systems:
  8. They are molecular biology tools that allow monitoring with high sensitivity the oncology patients' residual disease.
